Moving again

So what have we been up to for the last 6 months? Well, with winter coming on and the house in Iowa still not market ready we decided to change priorities. With the help of family the house in Michigan was winterized and we turned our focus back on Iowa. The house there was painted, staged and went on the market in January. Less than one month later it sold. With a proposed closing date of March 22nd it is now full steam ahead on Michigan again.

Ceiling paint going on

Last weekend we had a painting party. After some debate on whether to paint the ceilings we went with Dutchboy Dura Clean ceiling paint. It's amazing the difference it made, I didn't realise how bad those ceilings were until the paint started going on.

For the walls we selected Dutchboy Platinum paint banking on their promise that it will cover stains and stick to glossy surface. No prep, no prime. The entire house is "" with the exception of the lower part of the family and dining rooms which are "blondalicious" and the child's room which is a "mauvelous" pink. So pink that it was described as "like standing in a bottle of Pepto-bismol". Hopefully some of the furniture and accents will tone it down.

Slow going

It's been over a month and really not much progress has been made. The electrician is 95% done, there are new knobs on all of the cabinets and we've been thinking about paint colors.

What to do? Bathroom

This is the master bathroom. It is a nice size (10'6"x8') but has an awkward lay out and yes, that's carpet on the floor!

The entry is a door that opens into the room towards the shower. Standing in the doorway there is a single sink on the left and a small shower on the right. Straight ahead is a large corner jacuzzi tub with the toilet next to it. There is a small window above the toilet.

What do we want? A large shower would be lovely! We don't really care if we have a jacuzzi tub or not. A tub would be nice, but we could probably live without it if we had to. The single sink is fine but at least one toilet is a must :)
So, what would you do with this room? Any and all ideas are welcome.

Project "Septic"

What's that board covering up?
Before purchasing the house we had a well and septic inspection done and the septic failed miserably posing a severe health and safety risk. Apparently a hole in the ground supported by cinder blocks does not qualify as an acceptable septic tank.
Our bank wouldn't give us the loan until the septic issues had been rectified.
We agreed to pay for the septic replacement and the work was completed so we could close the deal.

At least we know that we have a working and safe septic system in place now.

Our Fixer Upper

This is our fixer upper. We are going to attempt to blog our fixer upping adventures, the good, the bad and the ugly. Feel free to post advice or recommendations, you never know, we may even listen to you, but, if you are not careful you may be enlisted to help.

The outside of the house is in fairly good nick. The doors, deck and siding will benefit greatly from a power wash and a lick of paint.
There is a large garage out back which needs some work to create a safe storage loft area.
